I suddenly noticed that my itunes library was infested with duplicates. What to do? Well luckily you can dun a duplicate check with itunes and then manually remove every second song... yeah I have over 1000 songs!
Ok there has to easier way and nevertheless if the files are not only duplicated in the library, but also on the disk, then what I am doing would not help a bit. What to do?
Luckily I've playing with computers before any of these fancy file managers did exist thus I can do some command line magic and since the duplicate files are all named *1.m4a. This is easy, just run the command del *1.m4a, ay? While the command does exactly what is meant to do, it also deletes the original copies with duplicates ... what the %¤#%!!! Luckily I was stupid enough not to think the switch /s.
Well RTFM as they tend to say in better circles. The DOS filesystem (FAT)is ancient and does not truly support longer than 8 character file names, thus my itunes library was full of files who's file name was in reality something like:
30.05.2007 15:44 8ÿ854ÿ815 07SYMP~2.M4A 07 Sympathy for the Strawberry 1.m4a
30.05.2007 15:44 8ÿ854ÿ815 07SYMP~1.M4A 07 Sympathy for the Strawberry.m4a
Thus the file short name was a type of ~1.M4A is the original and the file name for the duplicate files was type "Sympathy for the Strawberry 1.m4a", thus my command *1.M4A does delete both of them with one strike.
What you actually need to do is to run command: del /s *~2.M4A in your itunes libarary director to remove all the duplicates from all the subfolders.
And naturally if someone's been evil enough to name a song as shitty_song_~2.m4a that will be removed too -- but I guess that is very unlikely thing.

A book about hacks, quacks and such. A bit too England centric, a global version would be needed. Anyhow, Ben tries to expose medicalication hoaxes, where you are sold all sorts of pills to make you more fitter happier person.
A sort of reminder of how bad we are to intuitively to find facts:
1. We see patterns where there is only random noise
2. We see causal relationship where there are none
3. We overvalue confirmatory information for any given hypothesis
4. We seek out confirmatory information for any given hypothesis
5. Our assessment of the quality of new evidence is biased by our previous beliefs
Anyhow, ever heard that eating betacarotene makes your eyesight better -- well according to Ben that was invented by English RAF during the WWII when Germans got suspicious of Brit fighter pilots ability to see the enemy from very far ... of course we do not have a radar, we just eat lots of carrots.... or what about the story where a school in England paid 0.8£ for omega this and that pills per student and only 0.6£ for food ... but pills were thought to make kids smarter... O Tempora, O Mores.

Flow 09
Jäi hieman tyngäksi tämän vuotinen Flow. Osallistuin meininkiin ainoastaan lauantaipäivänä. Antikin oli hieman heikohkoa: ainoastaan Vivian Girls säväytti aidosti. Päälavallä ollut ikääntyneen bond-tytön pukeutumisnäytös olisi ollut paremmin paikallaan jossain Jätkänsaaren suunnalla. White Lies sai rintsikat lentämään, mutta tämäkään naisten emansipaation ilmentymä ei pelastanut tylsältä keikalta -- kun ei ole materiaalia, niin sitä ei sitten vaan ole. Tuuli Inari veti taidevoittoista ja ikävystyttävää matskua. Handsome Fur:sista ei ole paljoa sanottavaa, mutta se saattoi olla ihan ok matskua. Ja mitä niitä muita nyt sitten olikaan.
Vivian Girlseillä riitti materiaali juuri ja juuri noin 40 minuuttiin. Tiedä sitten vaikka olisivat saaneet settinsä uudelleen kuriin sen jälkeen kun lähdin mutta epäilen. Biiseissä on hyvät melodiat. Alussa monitorien sound checkin aikana laukaistu vitsi hauska: "Our next song is G".
Tapahtuma on kylläkin hyvin järjestetty ja tuollainen voimalaitoksien ja polttoainetankkien luoma industriaalinen atmosfääri on juuri oikea urbaanin musiikin festivaaleille.
Oluena edelleen fosters, siten toissa vuotinen Architecture in Helsinki:n vetoomus Austraalien "karjalan" juomatta jättämiselle jäi taaskin noudattamatta minulta ja muilta 12 000 henkilöltä.

Tein 2005 pienen internet-"haastattelun", jossa tein googlessa haun "xxxx sucks" ja sain jotain tuloksia siitä. Tein nyt sitten uuden päivityksen:

Nokia = 1 100 000
Motorola = 660 000
Phillips = 924 000

ja uusina

Mutta onneksi Apple on ihan omalla luvullaan: 17 600 000

Viineistä
Toscanan tuliainen Micheletti Bolgheri 2007 (merlot, cabernet sauvignon ). Viinistä jotain tarinaa täällä. Aika täydellinen samettinen tekstuuri. En ole ikinä oppinut havaitsemaan niitä satuloita, enkä etenkään nyt naudan ulkofileen ja ½KG Manchegon jälkeen havaitse kummosia nyansseja, joten sorry... Anyways, yksi parhaimmista viineistä mitä olen nauttinut. Ostan välittömästä lisää, jos jossain vain törmään.
Brolio Chianti Classico 2007 löytyy taas lähialkosta hintaan 16.90€ ja koskapa kyseessä on Chianti Classico rypäleenä on Sangiovese. Edelleen ulkofilettä, mutta edelleen todellinen viininautinto. Suosittelen lämpimästi. Oli 4 tähden viini Viinistä viiniin -kirjassa.
Baron De Ley Finca Monasterio 2006 pitänee vain kirjata, koska nauttimisesta on sen verran aikaa. Finca Monasterio on ymmärtääkseni Baron De Leyn huippuviini, jota ei saa Suomesta. Lähin vertailukohta lienee saman talon Baron De Ley Reserva. Finca Monasteriota on ainakin aiemmin saanut Munchenin lentokentältä.
