My first new set of skis since... very early 90's. Last pair of skis I bought was Kneissl White Stars 185cm bought back in, you know. Unfortunately they put in the bindings with too long screws and the skis were ruined. I loved them really, as long as they lasted, before the bottom gave up. I got to choose from very poor selection a replacement I took some, cannot even remember what, but shaise skis anyways, 200cm of disappointment. But I was poor and had no choice really.
I bought the next pair of skis from Messilä ski rental shop for, if my memory serves me right, 120FIM. This was somewhere -99 or so. They were a bit beaten up Fischer RC4 Vacuum Competition old skool no-carver skis. I thought that they would serve me for a quite a while -- and they did, I probably used them only a couple of times in a decade before the year 2009.
Now I skied with the dear old Fischer skis last and this year, before deciding to try new carvers at Vihti. I rented Atomic Race Ti SGs and loved them instantly. There was not a point of time when I did not feel fully trusting the skis. It was something I had never felt and ... I fell in love.
I started to search such a skis. Vihti ski rental asked 600€, which even I though was a bit too much. I found some in internet for 500€ and was about to buy one, but was held back by the price and the opportunity to support Ida's guitar playing wishes by purchasing a guitar for her. Then, funnily though, Ida's skates were found to be broken and we needed to buy new ones and when coming back from Lucky skate I said that let's go out to eat and we chose to eat at the chinese in Sello. Girls had something to shop for and I decided to spend the time visting the local Intersport. They had many interesting skis there: Rossingol WC's #9, FIS qualified SGs, Fischer RC4s ... and when I said that I have really tried to find me a pair of Atomic skis -- the guy asked, "You mean one of these?", and handed me a pair of GSs. The rest is history.

Knut RIP
I have already lamented this in other venues, but not here. This was a strike in the heart. The beloved Knut died suddenly, which now seems to be caused by encephalitis.
I am not sure if we should be happy about visiting him before all this, but I guess it is ok. Funny though, there was the uprising in Libya, a tsunami in Japan and I am mourning over a polar bear kept and raised in captivity. I ought to be ashamed, really.
